Dartford F2C Centralised Event - October 11th 1998

This was the last event on the 1998 Domestic Calendar and was a final chance for a number of teams to record the 10 times required for team selection. Bad weather was expected but in the end it was dry with a rather gusty wind (but not enough to spoil the racing)

All teams had four chances to put a good time in and the fastest of the day went to Langworth/Campbell who recorded a 3:18.8 on their fourth attempt with Ross/Turner second on 3:20.2. It was unfortunate that 2-up races were allowed in the early rounds and this enabled Smith/Brown to record a 3:27.0 with a setting that would not have finished in a 3-up race. Fitzgerald/Thomason recorded a 3:28.7 (2-up) and 3:31.3 (3-up) which, many believed, should have put them into the final.

In the final, Langworth/Campbell were the only pair to get a good setting and cruised home with a perfect race and a time of 6:56.7. Ross/Turner had overheating problems as did Smith/Brown and these two teams finished in 7:27.6 and 8:05.5 respectively.

A good days racing and a good finish to the season - Thanks again to Dave Rudd for running the event.
