This competition was shared with speed and everybody arrived aware that, although it was a fine morning, the forecast was for heavy rain from around 3:00 in the afternoon. As a result Dave Rudd, our regular CD was encouraged to get things moving as quickly as possible to try and acheive completion of the event before the weather arrived.
9 Teams turned up for F2C an racing was due to begin at 11:30 (the first heat actually got underway at around 11:50)
There were no blinding performances during the day with only Ross/Turner putting a quickish one in - a 3:21.4 in the third round. Fitzgerald/Thomason were second fastest with a 3:27.0 and Langworth Campbell 3rd with 3:32.1.
A fourth round was attempted with darkening clouds and we were then hit by torrential rain which did not look like stopping. As a result it was decided to abort the final round, not attempt a final, and place the competitors according to the first three heat times. (any times recorded in the 4th round were not taken for placings on the day as some teams did not have the opportunity to fly but will go forward towards team and league positions)
It is worth noting the continuing improvement of Barker/Tompkins who again did a personal best in breaking 3:40 for the first time using their Mazniak equipment. Walker/Peart unfortunately wrote a model off due to an up line failure at full speed.
The usual selection of goodies were provided by Dave Rudd for the top 3 places and the event finished early enabling everyone to return home unexpectedly early.
