The Sound System(s)

The Layout has two speaker systems builtin :-

Quad Speakers at each corner - allowing us to position sound where we wish

Two small USB powered speakers under the staion area

The Railway Control Machine (AL6W11a) has a number of sound outputs that we have connected as follows :-

Onboard Speakers - Connected to the two small speakers (USB Powered) under the main station area

The TV Monitor Output - not generally used

An SB Audigy Board - Connected to a 5.1 Speaker System but positioned but the monitor

An SB X3 Usb Box - Connected to the Quad Speakers on the layout

Sound Control :-

I have programmed the control module to enable us to use multiple sound outputs and select the speakers on startup

This enables us to have sound effects simulating train movement and also platform announcements appearing to eminate from the station

For the train motion effects we need to have a number of sound files saved which, when played, use the required speakers proportionaly

To acheive this I have divided the board into 16 imaginary areas - ABCD across and ABCD down

Thus - AA is the far left and DD is the front right

All Sound files are named using this terminology - for instance AAdmuclockwise.mp3 (one of our DMUs moving clockwise far left on the layout)

To create the individual sound files I have used Avid Protools 12 - this enables us to drag the sound affects across the speakers
